In Apple Health, lab results are a separate section inside Health Records, which shows up only after you import your first card. You'll find it under the list of all health data categories (the magnifying glass icon).

How on earth does this work?

Officially, the feature has been available for years now in the US and partially in the UK, through integrations with clinic and healthcare provider accounts. And, as usual, there is no sign of an expansion to other markets.

It turns out, though, that the whole thing is built on the SMART Health Card[1] format, which was created as an open standard (from building blocks of the HL7® FHIR®[2] framework) back in the COVID-19 pandemic, and was adopted by Apple Health as its native health record format. Remember the vaccination certificates you could add to Apple Wallet? Same format — just applied to lab results.

What do I get in Apple Health after adding a card?

Every result — glucose, hemoglobin, TSH, cholesterol and so on — shows up as a discrete measurement under "Health Records". Subsequent cards with the same test from different dates get merged by Apple Health into a single trend chart — you see how the value changed over time. Exactly the view Apple Health uses for results from connected US clinics.

Which tests can I enter?

About 55 of the most common ones today: full blood count with differential, lipid panel, biochemistry (liver, kidneys, electrolytes), thyroid (TSH, fT3, fT4), diabetes (glucose, HbA1c, insulin), coagulation (D-dimer, fibrinogen), inflammation markers (CRP, ESR), troponin, PSA. Does any of my data leave the browser?

No. All reading, mapping and card signing happens in this browser. There is no server that could receive your results. More: Privacy.

Can I upload a photo of the printout instead of a PDF?

You can — we accept JPEG and PNG alongside PDFs. But reading is tuned for clean PDFs from the Diagnostyka patient portal, and that is the only layout validated so far. A handheld photo adds page curvature, shadows and lower sharpness, so expect noticeably more errors. Check every value in the table before you download the card.

Practical tip: instead of a plain photo, use your phone's document scanning feature — Files or Notes on iPhone, Google Drive on Android. It flattens the perspective, evens out the lighting and saves a clean PDF, which is the hardest part done for us.

Other labs — a planned universal-OCR phase. For any other source use the "AI parser" tab: it's your LLM (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini…) that reads the document, and our tool only arranges its answer into a card.

How do you know Apple Health accepts these cards?

Verified on a physical iPhone. Apple Health handles the SMART Health Card format natively (built into iOS) and accepts lab results even from an unverified issuer — showing a grey "unverified" badge, but the trends, charts and history all work fully.

Why is the card marked "unverified"?

Because that's the truth: the card comes from a conversion tool, not from a laboratory. The green "Verified" badge is reserved for clinics and labs officially connected to Apple Health Records — a channel effectively available in the US and partially in the UK, and practically nowhere else.

The grey badge tells the truth about where the card came from — and doesn't get in the way of results, trends and charts working in Apple Health the same way they would from a connected clinic.

Why don't you show the "Works with Apple Health" badge?

Because that badge is reserved for native iOS apps built on Apple HealthKit and certified by Apple. LabCard is a web page that produces a file to import — not a HealthKit app (and doesn't need to be one to get your result into Apple Health).

We can honestly say LabCard "works with Apple Health" (a compatibility statement), but we can't and don't use the badge itself — it's protected and stands for something we're not.

Does this work on Android?

The generated file is an open standard — in theory yes, via the CommonHealth app. But I haven't tested it empirically on a physical Android yet, so today I won't declare it as guaranteed. Google Health Connect doesn't read these cards (it's a fitness data exchange hub, not a document reader).

Where do the LOINC codes and test names come from?

From a dictionary based on the international LOINC standard — universal identifiers for lab tests, used e.g. by US hospital systems. English display names come straight from the official LOINC LONG_COMMON_NAME field.

Does LabCard evaluate my results? Suggest diagnoses?

No. LabCard transcribes values from one format into another. The "in range / out of range" status is shown only when we received a reference range in the input — it's a mirror of that data, not a medical judgment. Doesn't replace medical consultation.

Who is responsible for my data after I export the card?

You. From the moment the .smart-health-card file lands on your device (or in Apple Health), you're its controller. LabCard keeps nothing from it — there's nowhere to keep it.

Why does this tool exist?

Because Apple Health officially pulls results only from connected clinics — a channel effectively available in the US and partially in the UK. Labs outside that footprint could theoretically join, but that's their move. Until they do, LabCard bridges the gap from your side.
